So we made it to Ballina, we have less than 200km to go. The last couple of days have been very eventful, hitting a 38km, 45km day followed by a 43km our average was pretty good! Had a couple of fights on the way as well... but after 20 odd days together it's to be expected. All in all doing well, our bodies are partially holding up and in good spirits. We'll be home in less than a week!!!! Our planned finish is 11am on the 5th of August on the Good Will Bridge in Brisbane BE THERE!!!! hahaha
Last night we met an amazing group of people Kimba, Kryssy, Dave and Kat from Broadwater who kindly entertained us, fed us and shelted us for the night. After a night of conversation around red wine, cheese and cultered food... feeling a little spoilt Kimba put a question to us: whats the solution to suicide? The truth is it is very complex and doesn't have a single answer but the Reach Out program run by the Inspire Foundation is one of Australia's leading suicide preventers, so by raising awareness and letting people know about this program would hopefully have a best result as it is sitting at their finger tips for when they need it. The Inspire Foundation have it sorted as they run multiple programs with suicide prevention as their main goal, one of the other programs/resources is called Act Now www.actnow.com is all about dealing with relevant issues troubling the mental health of youths i.e. eating disorders. This programs aim is to deal with issues before they develop into further mental health issues which can lead to suicide. SO I beleive the Inspire Foundation are one of the most relevant solutions to suicide through the use of their programs.
Kimba shared a touching story about how he had lost a great mate Jeff who suffered from Bipolar which lead to his suicide. His passing had a huge impact on Kimba and the community that knew Jeff and continue to greive the loss of a great man, he then shared his appreciation for our commitment to this cause and whole heartedly put his support behind our walk by offering a generous donation, accomodation, shower and an awesome feed prepared by his wife Kryssy. THANK YOU!
